Winter At Tiny Town

Children explore the beauty and structure of real snowflakes through close-up images and guided pattern activities. After experimenting with folds, shapes, and symmetry, they design their own oversized snowflake using geometric patterns. Each child’s snowflake becomes part of our Winter Gallery installation. Learning Focus: Early math through symmetry and shapes, visual pattern recognition, fine motor development, creative confidence, and understanding natural structures.

Children study winter villages and experiment with translucent materials and small LED lights before building their own glowing mini-house. Learning Focus: Light and transparency, early circuitry exploration, spatial design, art + engineering integration, and storytelling.

Kids explore the look and feel of snow and predict what will happen when colorful vinegar mixtures touch baking-soda snow mounds. They test their ideas and observe dramatic fizzing effects. Learning Focus: Early chemistry (reactions), sensory science, cause-and-effect thinking, prediction skills, and descriptive language development.

Children explore pretend bakery tools, create winter-themed cookies from foam and felt, then design a bakery menu and participate in pretend-purchase play. Learning Focus: Symbolic play, early literacy (menu creation), early math (exchanging pretend money), creativity,  social communication and early entreprenuership.

Kids study an illustrated Arctic map and use yarn paths, clue cards, and teamwork to complete rescue missions across icy terrain. Learning Focus: Problem solving, sequencing, teamwork, spatial navigation, early geography, and creative storytelling.

Children observe images of the Northern Lights and experiment with blending ink droplets on glossy paper to create dramatic aurora paintings. Learning Focus: Color theory, diffusion, visual expression, fine motor control, observation skills, and artistic decision-making.

Kids explore simple carnival game mechanisms, try mini prototypes, and then design their own winter-themed game. They play-test with friends and refine their designs. Learning Focus: Engineering design process (build-test-redesign), creativity, early physics (motion, force), collaboration, and rule-making.

Children explore tall structures, try mini builds, and predict how their towers will withstand a pretend snowstorm. They construct, test, and record results on our Tower Leaderboard. Learning Focus: Engineering stability, balance and forces, problem solving, perseverance, measurement, and early math reasoning.

Kids examine how light interacts with different textures and materials, experiment with layering techniques, and choose between making an icy lantern or glowing firefly jar. Learning Focus: Light and translucency, design decision-making, fine motor development, artistic expression, and scientific observation.

Children investigate winter tools, brainstorm problems to solve, experiment with loose parts, and create an invention. They draw a simple patent card to explain its purpose. Learning Focus: Innovation skills, design thinking, expressive language, creative engineering, and early technical drawing.

Children study a snowy map and use paper coding cards to program a penguin’s path across the Arctic. By arranging physical cards into a sequence, kids learn how coding works without any electronic devices. This hands-on, screen-free approach builds the core logic skills real programmers use, but in a way young children can see, move, and understand. Learning Focus:Early coding logic, sequencing, problem solving, spatial reasoning, and collaborative play, all taught through tangible, screen-free coding that strengthens foundational thinking before children ever touch a keyboard.
